Listen & Learn
Listening is a key factor in understanding and influencing other people, increasing your knowledge, and learning new information. Listening can have a tremendous impact on success in your personal and professional life!
Listening Is Hard Work! To really listen you've got to concentrate. You must focus on what the other person is saying! You must suspend your own thoughts, ideas and your internal dialogue. This is difficult! Yet to be effective, you must suspend your own inner voice, your inner conversations and your habit of planning to respond to what the other person is saying - while they are speaking! To do this successfully, ask yourself the following questions:
Listening not only involves hearing with your ears, it also involves listening with your eyes and other instruments of your senses.
Caution: While you may notice significant aspects of the persons body language, be careful not to interpret or give meaning to what you notice! For example, if the person says "Yes" while shaking their head signifying "No", do not determine that the individual is lying!
